Jenks coach Allan Trimble vs. ALS: ‘It’s pretty surreal’

In 2014, there was the first sign of a problem.

Before a ride on his motorcycle, Allan Trimble’s left hand wouldn’t function as he attempted the simplest of actions — the insertion of the key into the ignition switch. He couldn’t get the tip of his thumb and the tip of his index finger to come together and grip the key.

“It’s something you do a million times and you don’t even think about it, but I couldn’t do it,” he recalled. “I’m a big ol’ brawny guy, and I couldn’t do that?”

During the second half of the 2015 season, Trimble’s fatigue became more pronounced and persistent.
